Spring, 2004

Finally, it’s Spring…my favorite time of year! Here on the east coast we welcome the arrival of warmer weather, new growth, the colors of spring after the grays of winter, and the coming of summer!!!

WHAT’S NEW
February, March and April proved to be very busy months!! In addition to working at Sally’s Music Circle (A music program for infants and toddlers!!! SOOO fun!!!) I was running my daughter, Jenna, to the theatre 4-5 times a week to perform in the drama THE BAD SEED. She played the lead, Rhoda, a very demanding and challenging role. The show ended in early March and was very successful. So, until the NEXT show…it’s now quiet!!! (Well, I wouldn’t quite say “quiet”…my life is rarely quiet!!!)

MUNCY STATE
March 14th brought me to Muncy State Correctional Institute for women, in Muncy, PA. This was my first time ministering there and I sensed an excitement about this concert in the days leading up to it! My husband, Peter, and our good friend, Bill, joined me at Muncy for an 8 AM Sunday morning concert…my earliest concert yet!! We drove to Muncy the evening before the concert, as it is a 3+ hr ride.

We arrived at the prison at 7AM for security check, which takes about 45 minutes. Although it was early, I was wide-awake and full of energy, ready to minister to these women! Chaplain Reitz was there to escort us to the chapel and counsel us on what to expect. She has a real heart for these women and works tirelessly to meet their many needs and to bring the message of salvation to them. Please keep her in prayer as she has been battling a serious illness.

I was not sure how many women would attend the service, but it was a pretty full house, with about 150 or more. I felt an instant rapport with the women as I began the program, and they were very enthusiastic and attentive!

I was able to meet every woman after the service. We were also allowed to have them sign up for my newsletter. I have already received letters from some of the women expressing how blessed they were that someone cared enough to come and minister to them. They are so hungry, and lonely…they need words of hope, joy, laughter and encouragement desperately.

It was a joy to be there and I was blessed in return! I will be ministering there again in November.

AND NOW…
As my son prepares to graduate high school in June and my daughter officially becomes a “teen” June 1st, I realize even more how quickly the time flies. I pray God will teach me to use my time wisely and carefully, as many “things” vie for it!

PLEASE CONSIDER…
Financially supporting the prison outreach so it may continue, and grow. There are many expenses involved for each prison visit. The prisons cannot give a love offering; so all support must come from other sources such as concerts in congregations or from private donations.
